Jersey Shore fans know that Vinny Guadagnino is a huge advocate of the keto diet. After all, the man lost 50 pounds on it, starting calling himself “The Keto Guido” and even just released a keto cookbook. Now, Vinny says he has finally convinced his co-star and junk food-loving pal Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino to get on the keto diet as well.
Vinny told PEOPLE that Mike is giving keto a good, honest try after his stint in prison for tax evasion. Vinny joked that Mike was eating “everything in sight” prior to serving prison time (I mean, I would probably too), but now that he’s out, he’s doing the diet for real.
“He knew the principles of it and now he’s really applying it,” Vinny said.
Vinny is likely referencing the times that Mike swore he was going keto while on Jersey Shore Family Vacation, only to later order pasta and wine. Relatable. But it seems like The Situation is on a good path, with many noticing he got seriously jacked while serving time. He told Entertainment Tonight that he was super strict about his workouts while in prison.
“I had to continually challenge myself, whether it was in the gym and/or diet, as well as reading books and trying to progress spiritually as well because if you do not keep yourself busy in there, idle hands are for the devil,” he told them, according to E!.
Still, it wouldn’t be Mike if he didn’t treat himself a little bit upon his release. He said his first night out of prison was a naked pizza party with wife Lauren and he even posted a photo of an epic feast he had with his family upon his release.
But a little indulging was A-OK by Vin, who said that Mike was allowed to have more than a few non-keto meals after prison.
“Mike deserved that,” he told People. “This diet is not—no pun intended—a prison sentence, where you can’t eat that stuff again. It’s basically, you work hard for most of the time and then reward yourself. And that, he did.”
Vinny also said he’s also gotten cast-mate Jenni “JWoww” Farley on the keto train. Thankfully, Vinny says he included some keto-friendly Italian recipes in his cookbook, The Keto Guido Cookbook: Delicious Recipes to Get Healthy and Look Great so it looks like Sunday dinners are safe.
