Alex Ruani is a woman on a diet myth-busting mission. A researcher in nutrition science at University College London (UCL) and chief science educator at the Health Sciences Academy, which provides online training, she is well aware that her area of scientific study is more prone to mass misinterpretation than any other, so has set about debunking the many misconceptions. She says that she can “smell a fad in two seconds flat” and that so much of the information out there is taken out of context or just made up.
“There’s just so much junk science, from ‘evidence-based’ blogs, which are nothing of the sort, to ‘celebrity doctors’ giving advice about nutrition that is incorrect,” Ruani says. “And all of it has the potential to
