Cloud bread becomes the latest lockdown food trend to takeover Instagram and TikTok – Brinkwire

When lockdown started five months ago, thousands of Brits discovered a new love for home cooking, whipping up banana bread, sourdough, dalgona coffee and even dessert burgers.

Instagram feeds were flooded with picturesque desserts, snacks and meals, with flour selling out across the country.

And now the latest trend to takeover Instagram and TikTok is cloud bread, with millions of people across the world whipping up the simple, very colourful, four-ingredient recipe.

The trend appeared to be started by LA user Anaa, who shared a video on July 27 where she whipped up egg whites, sugar and cornstarch into a meringue-like texture before baking it.

She then removes it from the oven to reveal a springy, cake-like texture.

Abigail Hwang-Nable, from Hong Kong, made the recipe with a twist, by adding blue food colouring making it very Instagram friendly.

Her TikTok now has more than 23 million views, with many more recreating the recipe with food colouring.

Soflo Fooodie, a Florida-based Instagram account made several versions of the dish, including rainbow ‘cotton candy’ version, a blue version with oreos and even a savoury version.

While you really only need three ingredients to make the basic recipe, many have put their own twists adding almond slices, sprinkles, strawberries and flavour extract.

It’s not to be confused with keto cloud bread, a recipe popular with people on the low-card diet which involves mixing cream cheese and eggs together as substitute for bread.
